First Dance At Home

We just had our wedding two days ago and couldn't be happier with our choice to take lessons with Cori before!!! We both wanted a first dance that was lightly choreographed (to put our nerves at ease!) and what she came up with was absolutely perfect. We had some awesome dips and photographic moments, but for the most part it simply looked like we just knew how to dance, which A. Couldn't be further from the truth ;) and B. Was EXACTLY what we were looking for! Would absolutely recommend taking lessons with Cori before your wedding and know she will come up with exactly what you are envisioning, and then some. This also makes for a really fun date night and we are both looking forward to returning for group classes. Thank you!

This is the place for all of your dancing needs! We came with the simple request to not look like idiots during our first dance. Cori didn't stop there, she made us look like rockstars! She was awesome from start to finish. She never gave us more than we could handle, or anything that was over our heads. Cori was absolutely fantastic! She made dancers out of my fiance and I in only 5 lessons, and when we first danced as husband and wife, it was easy, fun, and, smooth! We had so many comments from our family and friends about how professional we looked, and people speculated we'd been taking lessons for months and had it all choreographed. We did not.... we went to Cori and filled out her questionnaire. Cori takes time to get to know what it is you're looking for in your dance. We wanted something that was classic, and had a few flashy moves, but nothing so stiffly choreographed that we had to get every step right. She started with the basics, and each week she would take it a bit further and add some more nuances or a new move. My wife hadn't wanted to do a first dance, but agreed if I agreed to get lessons. We are so happy we found Cori, as we ended up with a dance that we enjoyed, was within our confidence level, allowed us to improvise, and awed our guests all at the same time! Working with Cori was one of the best decisions of the wedding process. Not only because we were comfortable and confident with our first dance, with a lovely routine to boot. But, it gave us a fun almost "date night" escape from wedding prep to laugh and just be us. Cori is also wonderful in every way. She is patience and focused but also silly and understanding of what we needed. Our dance felt like it was perfect for our level of skill and time that we could dedicate to learning a new dance. She took into consideration things we didn't want to see, and elements that we "had to have." She would also show us several moves so that we could choose the best one to fit our vision. If you're looking for someone to help you with your first dance for your wedding.. stop here and call Cori. She's amazing. We are NOT dancers- we also didn't want some sort of formal dance routine either because that didn't feel like us. Cori listened to us and coached us to a perfect first dance that had some flashy points, but was totally us- casual, intimate, etc. She even helped us edit our song so it was a little shorter but still had the good parts! We were just so impressed all around.

My now-husband and I went to see Cori for first dance lessons and all I can say is those ten weeks were some of the best we had during wedding planning. Cori is like unicorn, she's not only rare, but also magical. Allow me to explain... They say opposites attract and that is very much the case with my husband and me: I'm a visual learner, my husband learns through logic and reason; I tend to prefer the big picture first filling in details as I go, my husband likes to have information presented in sequential order. To find an instructor that would be able to accommodate these various styles of learning we thought would be nothing short of impossible. Enter unicorn Cori. She taught us in a way we were both able to not just grasp the concepts but retain them, which ultimately made for one heck of a first dance. I mean, we nailed it. Like really nailed it. And for two people who had not an ounce of rhythm between them (although we really liked to believe otherwise) this was quite the accomplishment. And that was all thanks to Cori. She's a phenomenal teacher - so much so that we're already planning on heading back for more classes - and beyond that she is an absolute gem of a human. She's patient (like very patient), she's funny (like belly aching funny), and she's got a personality that makes you feel like a better person for just having known her. Cori not only made us look good but also feel good. She gave us all the tools we needed to be confident on the dance floor and frankly we wouldn't have been the dancing king and queen we were come the Big Day if it weren't for her. So, to the bride on her hundrenth search: Stop. Go see Cori. It's well worth the investment. And to Cori: A simple thank you will never be enough but I hope it will do. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. A thousand times thank you.

We cannot recommend Cori enough! As a couple who started out with a total of four left feet, we proudly NAILED our first dance at our wedding. This was all thanks to Cori.

First off, I'll address the investment. When we began wedding planning, carving out a budget to work with a choreographer was not even a thought. We enlisted the help of our teenage niece who's been dancing since she was 3 years old and figured that would be enough. We were wrong about that. While our niece was able to create a framework of moves to our song of choice, she did not have the experience teaching two people who knew little to nothing about partner dancing. We needed more help.

That's when we reached out to Cori. Our first session with her was a breath of fresh air coupled with an enormous sigh of relief! The thought, "oh thank God! We aren't going to embarrass ourselves at our wedding" came to mind. We showed up fairly late in the game with less than 3 months until our wedding to learn our dance (give yourself more time!). Cori, being the professional she is, helped us progress through the moves. 

It's remarkable how Cori can see the tiny details needing work. As someone who's never danced professionally, I marvel at how small details make such a huge difference in dance. She is able to explain complex dance concepts and motions in a way that anyone can understand.

Cori is fun, hilarious, well-versed in many (maybe all?) dance styles, and is passionate about helping couples shine. My husband and I are still in awe of the fact that we learned such a well-choreographed dance and not only that, nailed it on our wedding day! Months after our special day, we are still signing up for her four week sessions because dancing together has really become a fun activity we now share.

Please do yourselves a huge favor and work with Cori for your first dance! I promise you'll be glad you did!

We absolutely loved working with Cori! I'm quite possibly the world's worst dancer, but after working with Cori for a couple months, I felt comfortable leading my wife into our first dance and we got nothing but rave reviews. Everyone we talked to said our dance was the highlight of the evening. I really can't thank Cori enough for making that happen. I also want to mention that we met with a few different dance instructors before settling on Cori, but after one short session with her, we knew she was the right choice. Cori was the BEST dance teacher we could ever ask for our wedding! I have danced since I was a little girl, but my husband on the other hand can't seem to keep rhythm so we were both nervous about our first wedding dance. I convinced my husband and father that we should employ the help of a professional when it came to our wedding dances. I didn't want some crazy, elaborate dance. I just wanted to look natural on the dance floor. I searched google high and low; and after researching yelp as well it looked like Cori was a good fit. My dad is NOT a dancer, but he did great and was able to follow Cori's direction with ease. My husband (fiancé at the time), was weary about the dance, but he thrived in the dance classes. My now-husband was not happy when I signed us up for dance lessons. He went to the first class just to make me happy but truthfully he just wanted it to be over with. Somehow Cori won him over after the first lesson. Let me tell you, my husband had to drive from North County to North Park through crazy weekday traffic just to make it to our dance lessons. This alone speaks volume! I don't think I could have forced him to do that for 3 months. Looking back I am amazed that he showed up to class on time lol.

Honestly, we had such a great time learning from Cori and both have said that the dance lessons were one of the best aspects of wedding planning. Our first dance was a bit more special because we worked at it together. We can't wait to go back for date nights and have already told our friends about Cori.

Cori is amazing, and because of her we absolutely shocked everyone at our wedding with an amazing first dance! For some people, dancing does not come naturally at all, and the thought of the "first dance" is literally one of the most stressful parts of their entire wedding. That was 100% me.

My husband and I decided the best approach was to go all-in, and have a unique first dance song with some legit choreography. Cori is such a warm, happy, hilarious person, and with anyone else I am honestly not sure if we could have pulled this off. She is patient and understanding of different experience levels and personality types, and most importantly, she knows what she is doing, which translates to confidence in her students.

It is beautiful to watch her when she puts on the music, walks onto the dance floor, and "feels" how she wants the next piece of choreography to go. Watching Cori come up with dance patterns reminded me of watching a pianist sit down to compose music. It is true artistry and you can see the passion.

Cori is responsible for one of the highlights of our entire wedding, and for that we are so grateful. Anyone looking for a choreographer should check out Cori. She is the perfect blend of artist, professional, and friend. We love her, and you will too!

My now husband and I signed up for emergency dance classes a few weeks before our wedding. We knew we needed some guidance but didn't want it super planned out or anything too fancy. We both don't dance normally except maybe after a few drinks in our own house but Cori made us really comfortable. We brought her our song and she taught us a few moves and spins. She made sure we understood it and practiced it and she let us ask her questions whenever we needed to.

I am glad we did a first dance because now we have a super fun memory with it. Everyone watched and clapped and now we have some amazing pictures with it. Cori is one of the best dancing instructors you can find! Trust us, she was able to make us look GOOOOD for our first dance. 

You know how many times you attend a wedding and the first dance becomes a little long... then just a tiny bit boring because it's like middle school slow dance, and then there's an awkward moment of not knowing when to dip or stop because the music is still going? Well let Cori save the day or night!

We're non professional dancers to say the least, and Cori made us look like... you guessed it, professionals! All it took was 5 lessons. Those lessons turned out to be a great experience for my wife and I. Cori was able to point out all the small details we weren't paying attention to that helped make the dance feel seamless. We're even considering signing up for more classes because the experience was quite amazing! Learning something together with your loved ones create a special bond and memories that last a lifetime. They all say, happy wife happy life. We all need a happy wife.

Cori is the best in every way! She's fun, has a great sense of humor and of course she's incredibly talented but fantastic at breaking things down in an easy to follow way! My (now) husband and I took ~10 classes before our wedding and we loved it. It really gave us a fun outlet throughout the wedding planning process :) At our first lesson she sat down and really got to know US and what we hoped to learn. Although our main goal was leaving with a "first dance" that we loved, she clearly offered it all! Cori took great consideration into what we wanted and what we felt comfortable with and used that to create a dance that we loved every piece of! Ours was scripted but light-hearted and bubbly enough for us to not feel too much pressure over a missed step (and having one less thing to stress over was very helpful :) ). We Absolutely loved coming to this studio!! We were gifted a package from my sister for our wedding and we took lessons leading up to! Cori is absolutely fantastic! Her passion for dance, patience and excitement for her students is evident at all times. My fiance' and I found Cori online with excellent reviews so we decided to go for it - we are SO happy we did. We both are fine dancing alone but neither of us had never done partner dancing before. Additionally, he is a drummer and I do not have musical background so we definitely hear music differently. Cori made our first dance even better than we had imagined, yet she intently listened to exactly what we wanted from the beginning and along the way. She told us right away (and it ended up being true) that the dance would not end up looking like a cheesy, overly-choreographed first dance. She is professional and knows how to make your first dance appear both creative and natural. By the way, ours was choreographed down to the second, yet it looked natural and blew people away. She taught us how to look and feel more relaxed throughout the dance.

She is a very patient, kind person. She adapted to our learning styles and we left every class excited to practice at home. If you read her philosophy on her website about dancing, it perfectly describes her approach to teaching dance. She is all about using dance to help people connect and couples grow, and nothing about competition or perfectionism (yet she made us look pretty dang amazing on the dance floor). She started our lessons teaching us how to find connection in partner dancing, which helped us create a great foundation not only for learning our first dance, but for partner dancing in the future. We will continue to take classes with her because we love dancing after having tried out different salsa studios in San Diego (salsa is our favorite style of dance), we loved her style of teaching the best.

I danced a little growing up, but my husband has never danced before. We went in to see Cori for a trial to see if we wanted to take dance lessons before our wedding. He was very nervous and not even the slightest bit excited. He had completely different ideas of what it was going to be like; but after our first 30 minutes with this wonderful woman, we were hooked. We booked 8 lessons with her for a personalized dance to our song, "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls. Every day we came in, we had a blast! She was so creative with the choreography, she knew to stay within the limits of our abilities, but also to push us just a little bit because she knew we'd be grateful.

We had so much fun with her; we laughed and played and grew together doing something new, and our first dance together as husband and wife was unforgettable!!! WE NAILED IT! Everyone was so shocked by what we had put together; people were laughing, crying, "woo-woo"ing, it was amazing! We cannot WAIT to go back and learn some more grooves from this lady!

We came to Cori for lessons to help us with our first dance on our wedding day---Cori was amazing and way exceeded our expectations. She immediately caught on to how each of us learn best---especially noting my husband's very technical-inclined mind and provided not just instruction but also the technical reasons behind each position that really helped my husband grasp how to lead. We loosely choreographed our whole dance and were so comfortable on the dance floor on our wedding day--all smiles, totally at ease, and able to really enjoy our first dance as husband and wife. After researching multiple site/vendors, my wife and I decided that it would be fun to take dance lessons with Cori. Our big day was approaching and we wanted to impress guests at our wedding. After a few minutes of the verbal breakdown of how and why we set our frame, off we went. Within 30 minutes we were DANCING! COME DANCE WITH CORI! Seriously, this girl is a super rockstar!! In an effort to spend a few extra special moments with his "baby girl," my dad signed us up for dance lessons for our father-daughter dance. What we thought would be a once-a-week get together full of awkward steps and failed dips turned into true dance lessons, where we transformed from wallflowers to dancing machines. We enjoyed this new connection so much that we decided to purchase another dance package, even after the wedding was over. I look forward to learning other styles of partner dance from Cori. This is a great way to keep our marriage exciting! I highly recommend adding this experience to your life.

My wife and I were "beginners" at dancing to say the least. Basically I can barely keep a beat and have trouble walking never mind dancing, but.... Cori somehow taught us how to dance and it was one of the most fun and memorable things I have ever done with my wife. We started about 4 months before our wedding doing one class a week and before we knew it we looked like pros. Cori is an incredible teacher and very patient. Cori is THE BEST dance instructor to work with, my husband would say the same! We went to Cori for dance lessons for a dance we wanted to do at our wedding. She made our vision come to life. We learned so much and progressed so much after even one session with her. My favorite thing about Cori is the way she can teach you to execute complicated movements in a very conceptual way by explaining what's going on, modeling for you, and walking you though the steps until you make them part of your own muscle memory. We could self-critique, video and playback moves, modify and add to our routine, it was a complete joy, thank you Cori!!!

Simply put - Cori is absolutely amazing and so much fun to take lessons with - we highly recommend her! My husband and I were never dancers before we started taking lessons with Cori for our wedding. We took classes to learn some dance basics, choreograph our first dance, and gain some confidence for dancing at our friend's upcoming weddings! We also enhanced our communication and had fun learning a new skill together too! Our first dance was definitely a highlight of our wedding and we continue to receive compliments, thanks to Cori!

Cori is excellent at finding different ways to communicate with everyone! She quickly took our personalities and incorporated that into our dancing so that our first dance was unique to us! She even incorporated a spin for my husband into our routine after he joked that I got to have all the fun with the spins and it was absolutely a highlight and a crowd pleaser! By the time our wedding came around, we had learned numerous basic steps, a variety of turns, and even a lift that was a highlight of our first dance! Cori gave us the skills and confidence in our dancing that even when our nerves on the wedding day got to us and we moved through our choreographed material too quickly, we were able to improvise on the spot and no one knew but us :) We received and continue to receive compliments from our friends and family from the wedding about our first dance! Dance lessons with Cori made for a wonderful date night that helped to break up all the wedding planning! We used to be the couple that would avoid the dance floor at events and weddings, but now we enjoy dancing together and are some of the first ones on the dance floor! Cori not only taught us how to dance but how to communicate through dance (how to lead and follow) and how to work through learning a new skill together! We would highly recommend Cori to anyone interested in dance at any skill level!

From the first day forward, we had an amazing time learning to dance together with Cori as our guide. So, I had absolutely no idea what I was doing dancing. I enjoyed it, sure, but I was clueless. My wife and I decided to squeeze in a couple classes before our wedding just to have SOME sort of plan out there on our first dance. We were SO glad we did. Again, I had never done anything like this, so I had no idea what to expect. Not only did we learn a dance... but we had so much fun doing it. Our lessons were our hour escape from the craziness of planning a wedding. Something that was just my then-fiancee and I with no distractions. That was worth it in itself! They were INCREDIBLE teachers, and I never once felt foolish for having no prior training or embarrassed as we tried to learn our steps. No, they were just plain awesome. Super super fun and friendly people.

So, the important part: we learned a dance. We learned FAR more than I imagined we would. We had an actual routine, with some fun moves that had all our guests cheering. It was exactly what we wanted and then so much more. We are definitely planning on going back and taking more lessons... just for the sheer fun of it. If you're thinking about Cori for a first dance, just do it. Not only will you get a great and confident dance planned out, but it will be a much-needed fun escape for the two of you.

Cori is wonderful to work with. We are definitely not natural dancers and she will get you feeling comfortable in no time. We are practicing our wedding first dance and we have noticed tremendous improvement in just the first few lessons. We have taken a few lessons previously and it just left me more unsure of myself. But Cori eases you into the basics and will not let you progress until the base is set. I think that's what is missing in more lessons and we can definitely tell. We decided to take dance lessons to ease the nerves we felt as we prepared for our wedding - there will be so many eyes watching us! We figured we would take one class to get comfortable and find a nice rhythm together. Well, long story short - we decided to sign up for 4 classes, which we eventually extended to 6. Learning to dance with Cori was by far one of the best steps in the wedding planning process. While it was of course extremely fun to learn to dance with the person you love, it was Cori's personality & fun loving nature that made the experience that much better. Cori worked with each of us independently as well as a couple. She made the lessons fun, but also very effective. On our wedding day, there were very few nerves as we walked out for our first dance together. If anything, we were excited. Excited to surprise everyone with our simple yet romantic dance, complete with a fun dip. It was more than what we ever imagined & owe it all to Cori!
